3 ways to avoid teacher burnout
Meditate
You probably don't even have time to go to the restroom during the day, so how could you possibly meditate? You absolutely can!  You teach kids everyday how to be mindful of their thoughts and actions.  Do it for yourself; practice mindful meditation for teachers.

Mindful meditation for teachers will you reduce stress, improve your emotional health, increase your patience level, improve your health and overall job performance.

Start with 3 minutes of meditation a day, gradually increasing your time as you see fit.  Set your alarm 3 minutes earlier to meditate in the morning before you start your day.  Take 3 minutes to shut your classroom door after dropping kids off to a special. Release your stress 3 minutes after dismissal.  Before going to bed, take 3 minutes to meditate and forget about the days stress.

You can use apps, such as HeadSpace, or search YouTube for teacher meditation videos.  Whichever method you choose, just make sure to include meditation on your list to avoid teacher burnout.

Find the Positive
Friends, this has been life changing for me, and I know it can help you, too! After teacher 17 years, I have finally discovered the importance of finding the positive. And by find the positive, I don't mean just put a smile on your face and pretend to be happy.  Don't get me wrong; smiling and happiness are awesome.  But, truly find something positive in every part of your day.  Sure, we will have more stressful days than others, and not all days can be joy.

Listen, I want you to stop in the middle of your most frustrating moment during the day, remove your emotions, and find a positive.  Easier said than done, I know.  But, if you are looking for ways to avoid teacher burnout, you must try finding the positive, and make the best of what's around (Feel free to break out in song).  If you get my reference, you're the best :)

Create Movement
Notice I didn't tell you to exercise.  Yes, finding time to exercise everyday would be ideal to avoid teacher burnout.  However, I also understand you may be burnt out from a lack of time, have a family and children at home, and simply cannot squeeze in more than 30 minutes into your daily routine.

Instead, start with creating movement.  Move your body in little increments.  Do lunges when you walk to the classroom door; take one more lap down the hallway before rushing into your room; do stretches while standing at the copier; all are simple ways to incorporate movement into your day.

I'll never forget the time when my friend, Rachel, and I decided to attempt headstands before the kids came into our classroom. Yes, friends, we did that.  Well, let's be real - Rachel was the one who knew what she was doing, but it was sure fun trying it along side of her!

Not only will these small movements help you avoid teacher burnout; they will likely, if done consistently, lead to more physical exercise.  More physical exercise increases happiness.
