Penguin Facts and Writing Center

These flightless birds, with an adorable waddle, are often a part of elementary science lessons.  You can spark your students learning about penguins with a trip to the zoo, watching this PBS video, reading informational text, and incorporating this no-prep writing center - Building Sentences: All About Penguins.

Simply print and leave the penguin worksheets at a writing center.  Discuss and display the 10 Penguin Facts found on the anchor chart - included in the resource packet.
Level 1(see below) worksheets have the penguin fact printed across the top of the page.  Students cut, build, and glue word tiles to reconstruct the sentence.

When done, they draw an illustration to show their understanding of the penguin fact.

Level 2 (see below) worksheets do not have the sentence printed at the top of the page.  Instead, the students are expected to you semantic and syntactic reading strategies; building a sentence using the mixed up word tiles at the bottom of the page.

You can purchase this no-prep writing center, Building Sentences: All About Penguins, HERE.
