Making Words October

Making Words is an engaging activity that builds vocabulary, concepts of print, letter recognition, and writing skills.

Students read, build, write, and illustrate the October themed vocabulary word printed at the top of each page.  To support emergent readers, there is a graphic representing each picture. The 1" letter tiles at the bottom of each page are scrambled - designed for the students to cut and paste - making the word at the top of the page.

Knowing how little time teachers have, these no-prep worksheets make it simple to establish an engaging center activity, while supporting Kindergarten and 1st grade ELA Common Core Standards.

After building the October themed vocabulary word, the kiddos write the word, and draw an illustration to show their understanding of the word.  The October themed words are pumpkin, Autumn, Fall, leaves, ghost, spider, candy corn, acorn, bats, and owl.

As a bonus, all of my Making Words resources also come with Illustrated Word Cards!  I love to display these cards in a writing center, on a monthly themed bulletin board, and put them on a binder ring to keep in a weekly Making Words center.  They are also great for pocket chart activities!
